Sodelicious and Daiya

Post  milo on Sun 17 Apr 2011, 12:01 pm

As many of you may know, I have been on a healthful eating journey that had me cut out gluten, dairy, soy and many other things from my diet. This started long ago when it was revealed that I was allergic to everything under the sun, then progressed to an actual way of life.

Back when I was on the allergy diet, I discovered that the only icecream I could tolerate was made of coconut. It was hard to find and was 7.99 for the tiny haagen-das size container.

As my eating plans progressed, it remained a staple for me. It's made by sodelicious and it's the vanilla bean flavor.

Well, on Friday we discovered that they had come out with a milk substitute and it's awesome too. I'm having a latte with it now and I love it. Totally worth trying if you need to find a dairy, soy, gluten free alternate for your milk.

Another awesome thing we found was daiya cheese. Again it's dairy, soy and casein free. You can find other fake cheeses, but this stuff actually taste and acts like cheese. It's good raw in salads as well as melted on your hot meals. I like the mozza over the cheddar but both are good.

Does anyone else know of similar products? I love finding new things that I can tolerate and enjoy.

Milo, these products sound wonderful and I will have to try these. I don't know that many substitutes yet as I have just embarked myself into a similar sort of diet (although mine does include soy products.) Have you tried almond milk? What about Ezekiel breads? Ezekiel breads are made from sprouted grains and come in different flavors -- even raisen bread and english muffins. You can find them in the freezer section of supermarkets and also in natural health food stores. They are very good.

The vanilla bean icecream is really, really good. I'll have to check out the sprouted grains breads.

Yes, things became more tough on my intake once soy was also out...and casein, as many soy products have casein added. I'm actually gonna go check out the bread right now....off to the health food store I go.

Are you, like, totally allergic to the milk stuff or just lactose intolerant?

I am just L-I so I only have to avoid certain milk product like real milk - or use lactase enzyme and that helps a lot.
Because of that, I never had to resort to 'fake' dairy products.
Once I decided to give it a shot and tried Soy and Rice milk.

Geezzz - not for me, no thanks! What a Face
and that's how I am totally clueless come to these things.
