On the ballot for new Board
I think the last time I "ran" for anything was 6th grade student council. I was told today that I'm on the ballot for a new Board that will be making decisions that will effect over 450 entities in over half of my State.
Yikes!!!! I was very honored when was asked if a colleague could nominate me, and then I found out several other colleagues nominated me also.
This Board will be contentious. Four different ways of doing things have to be combined in to one way. Four different philosophies, some strident personalities. What did I get myself in to?
The chances are me making the Board are, oh I don't even know....I don't know how many professionals in my category are on the Ballot. I have the credentials, I look damn good on paper, but I am rather nervous as to if my head is going to let me take on the extra travel and stress this will entail.
I guess I will just see how it comes out in the wash.

Re: On the ballot for new Board
Congratulations, Charlotte!
I always liked you, but now I am honored to know you!!
Well, what does the job include? Would you have to travel a lot, go to meetings a lot?
Maybe it's something it won't bother your poor head too much?
If you decide to accept, I know you will do a heck of a great job!!!
I am so proud of you!!!!
Hooray for our Charlotte !!!!

Re: On the ballot for new Board
The farthest I would travel is four hours. My work is very good at compensating me for my time, including travel time. Plus, if a meeting is more than an hour and half drive in the morning they will pay for a hotel for the night before. I imagine in the beginning it will be two - three meetings a month.
And yes, I accepted the nomination, I am on the ballot, and I have to send in a mini biography. I'm not sure when the election is. I'm not on pins and needles about it...it would be fantastic if I was elected, there is much to be accomplished and I have the experience and knowledge to help the process, but it would mean a lot more down time and rest for me if I'm not.
So, I'll write up my bio, submit it, and then que sera sera.

Re: On the ballot for new Board
Well, the votes are in. Over 450 ballots went out and I won. I'm on the Board. 15 of us on the Board to reshape a system that covers 1/2 of my State.
So many emotions...thrilled that my peers and colleagues think so highly of me, worried I'm in over my head...the old Peter principle...worried I won't hold my temper, there is a bulldozer involved in this process and I need to be able to stand in front of her yet be diplomatic at the same time.
Plus, I'm a little sad. My Mama would be so proud of me. I wanted to call her all day, but she's been gone many years. I'm proud of myself, and only my Mama would be prouder.
