Books you really wanted to finish but didn't
We all have them, or at least, I'm pretty sure we all have them. Books that we bought because everyone said the were so great yet once we got them home and started them we never made it through them.
I know I've done this several times and have a stack of books that I just never got into. Perhaps it was bad timing, perhaps the writers style didn't suit me...so many reasons really.
My most recent is Stieg Larsson's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Totally could not get into this despite many of my friends recommending it.
The other big one was The Devinci Code...which I still really really want to finish but for some reason it just never happens.
What great books have you started but never seem to finish?

Portrait in Sepia by Isabel Allende
I first read her book "Daughter of Fortune" which was great, and the Portrait in Sepia is a follow up to the Daughter..
so naturally I thought it is gonna be as great.
Well in the beginning it was, but in about 2/3 of the book I had an impression the author forgot what it was all about and couldn't quite grasp how to gracefully bow out of the story. keep going back to and on the very same stuff.
In the end I gave up the last 40-50 pages or so.
The Polished Hoe by Austin Clarke
- this one was was long ago, and actually I don't remember why exactly I couldn't finish it but I have vague idea that
like Portrait in Sepia it was droning on and on needlessly at times. this one, though, I plan return to and finish as this is
otherwise really good, moving book.
and currently
What the Body Remembers by Shauna Singh Baldwin
I dunno.... this is certainly profound, interesting book, very well worth reading, especially for those who are unfamiliar
with Sikh culture.
It educate on the subject, helps to close the gap between totally different cultures and religions.
Helps to understand where different people come from, to understand and to know bits of real history.
Still .. I dunno, the pace maybe.. .. or maybe because I am not into politics?
maybe because I am too XXI century and particularly as an fiercely independent woman, a mother - sometimes this book irritates me?

Re: Books you really wanted to finish but didn't
I almost always finish my books. The only ones I don't are so badly written that I don't know how they get published. Like anything by James Patterson... I tried, really tried to read a couple of his books but the ones I read are so lacking in character development that they are borrring!
I'm pretty eclectic in my reading material so when something bores me, I'm pretty surprised.

[quote]Like anything by James Patterson...
lol
shows how different we all are
I like Patterson! especially Alex Cross.
Sure, the books are maybe rather so-called "toilet read",
but I think suspenseful enough to want to know "whodunnit" at the end.
At least for me.

I figured a lot of people must like his books because he writes so many.
For suspense I like Lincoln Child and Douglas Preston better. Tess Geriston is another fav. Rizzoli and Isles tv show is based on her characters. I could go on and on. I have a library of over 1000 books so there are lots of favorite authors in there. LOL
