Your first car.... Empty Your first car....

Post  Cluelesskitty Wed 20 Apr 2011, 12:48 am

How old were you when you got your driver license?
I was in my 40ties, living in BC, Canada, scared out of my wits to drive.
Then the time came to go and buy me me first own car!!

Who doesn't remember the sheer joy and excitement of getting your first car ever! Smile
It could have been blowed up rusted tuna can on wheels - to you, it was a shiny miracle!

Do you remember what brand was your first car?
Mine was Ford Taurus 1987 for about $2000 CA, lolol

Your first car.... Taurus10

Mine was a 1967 Plymouth Valiant. It was a dull, faded pea green color. I bought it when I was 15 years old with money I'd earned babysitting, selling my livestock, and working in the kitchen at school. I paid for gas over the next couple of years with several jobs. It was a good first car because its top speed was maybe 65 mph, it was so ugly that a scratch or dent wouldn't make a difference in its appearance (although I never caused a scratch or dent in it), and it was clean. Growing up in Minnesota with very cold winters, I can't count the number of times I had to call the local service station to jump my dead battery (they did it for free then) after school.

I have lots of good memories of my friends in that car. Cool Smile

My first car was meant to be this pastal green thing from the 20's with a three in the tree but my mom talked me out of buying it. So I went another ten to fifteen years before I had a car.

A friend I knew had lost her estranged father, who left her everything. I'd always coveted her old, old honda civic, so I told her to sell me it when she bought her new car with her dads money. She told me she would give it to me...but of course this was over beers after a ball game so I assumed it would never lead to anything.

A few months later she calls and tells me that she can't give me the civic as she wanted to keep it, but would I like her dad's old caddy? It was huge! It was pretty though, and once my sister did a pro detail on the car it was pretty sweet. I kept it for a while, but eventually realised that I needed a smaller car for my needs. I sold it to two swedish guys who were driving across Canada for fun. I took the money and bought a tiny, white Chevy Sprint...which is the car I actually consider to be my first car. I loved that car and I drove it in to the ground!

Mine was a double hand me down. First it was my mothers, then my older sisters, then I turned 16 it was mine. It was a little white two door Toyota Carina. I loved that little car.

But I never knew where it would be. My best friend through grade school and until I was 40 was a guy. He and his football buddies would see my little car and pick it up and carry it off. If I was in class I'd find it on the football practice field. If I was at my boyfriends I'd find it sideways in the roadway. When Id go to leave a party it would be up against a fence with another vehicle parked in front of it so I couldn't leave.

A car that little and six strapping high school football players = great practical jokes.

I missed so many curfews over that one. Plus, much as I loved my car so did my friend. And he had a big red ford pick up with a stick shift that I LOVED to drive. So we were always trading vehicles.

I've decided my next car is going to be another little white vehicle. Going through reverse childhood. I'm looking at a Nissan Rogue.

Mine was a dark green Pontiac Lamas (spelling is probably wrong!). I bought it with my own money (well actually my dad bought it and I payed him back. It was a 1968 V-8 engine and drove like a dream. Very fast with black bucket seats and I loved it. It cost me $800 dollars and I drove it all through college and finally my dad spruced it up and we sold it many years later for $500.00. I named him Bud. Best car.

I had a 1997 Nissan Altima. I got it when I was 17 for $5,000 cash and although I destroyed that thing in a matter of two years, I deeply loved it! I can remember so many good times in that car Smile

Anyone ever play a game called padiddle? Laughing

My first car was a black Mustang II. Very pretty but a POS. The person who had it before me NEVER changed the oil so two of the pistons fused to the head which then FLATTENED two of the cam shaft lobes. I had to completely rebuild the engine.... but I loved my car with all its faults.

I was struck by lightning in that car. Scared the bejesus out of me! The electrical system was never quite the same after that.

My first was a Geo Metro...very easily movable, like the Toyota mentioned previously. I loved that I could fill the tank for about $5 USD (early 1990s) and drive it for 2 weeks before it needed refilled. Now, $5 won't give me a day's worth of gas.

Is padiddle like 'one headlight'?

I know, I'd die of shock to fill a tank for $5 now

Yes! Thank god I was in the car and therefore insulated. I hated driving in storms for years after that. Then I went camping and got caught in a couple of lightning storms... That pretty much cured me of my fear. Something about watching lightning strike ALLL around me while on a mountainside was more amazing than scary. But my poor car... that was another story.

I didn't feel tingling. I just saw absolute white and the sound was very strange, loud but muffled. My car died and I had to pop the clutch to get it going again. It struck on the hood and pretty much screwed up the electrical. I was insulated by being in the car so it was the light and the sound that really freaked me out... along with the fact the my CAR just got struck by lightning!!! I was only 18 and on a lonely, windy, country highway about 20 minutes from any other person. I drove about 30 mph the rest of the way and wouldn't drive in the rain for a really long time.

The funny thing was when I got to my Dad's house, I didn't even tell him. I was so freaked out and didn't want to worry him.

All together an unforgettable experience. LOL

I THOUGHT MY BOYFRIEND MADE UP THAT WORD TO GET A KISS. one headlight out meant a kiss. padakkle meant one taillight was out and that meant a WHOLE differnt action.

My car was a 1977 Maverick which I paid 500.00 for and had for two weeks until a drunk driver tossed me into a ditch. The insurance gave me 800.00 for it.
