Anniversary ideas.
We are invited to our friend's 40th wedding anniversary this month but we can't make it as I have family visiting from England and will probably be away the day of the party.
I was thinking of sending a gift card in with their anniv. card for a restaurant as I know they struggle financially and rarely get to go out for a meal. The one problem is that her husband has emphesema and is on oxygen and I'm not sure if it would be hard for him to eat out with the oxygen tube hanging down. My husband said I could give them a gift card for Safeway or another food store, but that seems so impersonal to me. Do any of you have a suggestion? They are going through a lot right now, their son's wife just left him and the two children so they are moving in with my friends and it will be such a strain on them, I really feel sorry for them.
Any ideas?
Thanks

I think it's a wonderful idea as is. Most people on O2 can use a portable and money may be just the reason they are avoiding going out. You could always make a note in the card asking them to let you know if they would prefer another option if you are really worried. I think the idea is very sweet.

Thanks Milo, I think I'll stay with the original idea as I know it would be such a treat for them to go out for dinner.

Re: Anniversary ideas.
I was wondering if some of the fancier restaurants offer take out?
I know from the humbler ones, the Swiss Chalet does, and so does Boston Pizza,
they have quite decent dinners, so perhaps your friends/family can opt for staying home.
I know it's not The Keg or other sophisticated Parle vous Franse, lol,
but I personally love The Swiss Chalet chicken as much as I love The Keg steak, too!

Risa, I had thought of that too as I'm wondering if it would be easier for them to have something bought to them. I also love Swiss Chalet (my favourite is the chicken pot pie, it's not figure friendly but sooooo good!!!).
There are gift cards you can buy for a number of different restaurants including Swiss Chalet. I may go that route instead.
Thanks for suggesting it.

I think thats a nice idea too. A restaurant that has the option of eat in or carry out.
My Dad had emphysema and was on oxygen for years but was still pretty mobile until the last six months.

Re: Anniversary ideas.
We order take out from restaurants all the time as I don't always feel up to cooking or going out. Most restaurants will do a to go order. Since I'm such a food snob, I only want to eat at good restaurants so am happy that they will all do to go orders. What would be perfect is if they also all delivered, but I guess you can't have everything!
