Been away - new diagnosis Empty Been away - new diagnosis

Hi Everyone

I've been away for a while because I've been pretty miserable and not much to offer but anger. These last 9 months have been hell with migraines that have doubled and I have just felt so ill and exhausted and defeated. Death was on my mind much of the time.

Well, last tuesday I was at work and I couldn't keep my head up off of my desk. I even fell asleep on the toilet. I couldn't stop shaking (I had been shaking for some time now but was hiding it) and I had diahrea for weeks. I decided to check my heartbeat and it was racing. I decided to drive myself to the hospital and lo and behold I discovered that day that I have Graves disease in a bad way. (Hyperthyroid)

Well, now, doesn't that just explain the last 9 months! At least I am hoping that it does, but from what I read, all the exhaustion leaves after 3 months and so too would I imagine the extra migraines. Tomorrow I go in for some tests whereby I drink a bit of radiation and then they look inside to see what is causing it and how bad it is before they decide on further treatment. Either RAI (death by radiation) or surgery to remove part of it, or pills. The doctor already said I am past being able to be healed by pills.

For the most part I am still pretty angry. One of the leading symptoms of this disease is anxiety and agitation and not resting while I sleep so I have been so uncomfortable for so long. Now I am in mourning for having discovered I have another disease to contend with. I am only glad that atleast with this one I start out with a specialist as opposed to migraines where I have yet to see a specialist and am still on the waiting list. (November 21, I count the days)

Anyways, I didn't come here to just whine about me, but to put forward that an increase in migraines could be a symptom of something else. I could have found this sooner if I wasn't so headstrong in denial. I had the symptoms (hand tremors, diahrea) but I hid it instead of dealing with it. I knew intinctively that I was in for a lot of sorrow at having to deal with something else, but the pain of migraine was familiar so I chose the pain.

Anyways, I needed to share this.

Thx for listening.

I was very sorry to hear about the Graves. I totally understand you trying to hide it. People are so atuned to our migraines that another illness is just too much for them. Well....what about us? Think of how we feel?

I hope they get the right treatment for you and you are feeling much better soon. I know you must me exhausted from the last nine months and what is ahead of you.

We are here for you here and hope you have a good support system with you now.

Positive thoughts....

Thanks Milo and Kimsmom

I just had the tests and spoke with the Endo. She has never had a migraine patient before and thought nothing of it, and wanted to just jump into radiation. I had to explain just how bad the migraines were and how suicidal I have been these past months and that if they got worse it just might push me over the edge. I'm not hiding this truth anymore. It's not friggen attention getting like people want to think so they can push it under the rug like migraine pain.

She agreed that I can take pills until I see the Migraine specialist in November and have a discussion with him. Besides, with the pills and control of the Graves, maybe the migraines will subside and we have proved something.

I'm so exhausted and am on day 5 of a migraine.

I really do appreciate your support. I does help.

Oh Enigma, I am so sorry!

I remember from my childhood, one of my sister's friends had some thyroid problems that caused her to have eyes 'popping'
out of their sockets.
Maybe she's had what you have?

Enigma, I strongly believe the increase in your M recently is connected to your Graves.
Once the treatment for it starts, your M will go down.
I found this:

Hang in there, sweet friend. We are behind you 100%. There is a light at the end of this tunnel!

How are you doing today, sweetheart?

Thanks for finding that article, Risa. It gives me hope. I'm still having atleast #3 migraines everyday, even after starting these pills on Thursday. I'm scared to take T-3 after a bad bought of stomach problems on Thursday and the result of that so I'm just suffereing through

Today is the first morning that I am feeling not as bad, but still feeling weak and exhausted. It the first day of a good sign.

I'm going to try to find other cases of migraine and graves because I have a feeling the Neuro has no cases either and so, like always, its up to the patient. Isn't it always the case....
