New doc says no to botox and yes to depakote
Really tired of dealing with docs.............after seeing a neuro who seemed more like a snake oil salesman I decided to go to a new neuro who came with a good recommendation to get his opinion on botox. He felt that the botox would treat the pain but not the aura symptoms which is my major issue. He was very patient with all my questions and we talked quite a bit about what he thinks is going on in my migraine brain. He also reviewed all my meds and was curious about why I have never tried depakote.....so now he wants me to give it a try along with inderol. I am not sure I am ready to try another med which he did respect - so have the prescription - just not sure I am going to fill it. If anyone has had any experiences with depakote please let me know! Thanks

The only problem I had with depakote was by the time I reached a therapeutic dose my hands trembled horribly. I couldn't keyboard which is a big part of my job. Hope you have better luck!

Re: New doc says no to botox and yes to depakote
We were on vacation and didn't want to start a new drug while away from home so started on the depakote Tuesday night after we returned. First night just had a little shortness of breath but wasn't too concerned with it since I used to have a lot of trouble with asthma.........last night the shortness of breath was worse and was accompanied by itchy palms and it just felt like my skin was crawling.
Talked to my husband about whether or not I should try for a third night and we decided that I was probably having an allergic reaction to it and it would probably get worse instead of better so now depakote is off the list. I am not surprised - this body just does not do meds well. I am planning on calling my neuro's office tomorrow to let them know and to see if I could give the inderal a try.............Thanks for checking in!

Definately one to consult the doc over. That type of response sounds like an allergy and shouldn't be messed with. I'm glad you stopped taking it.
