Girls names Empty Girls names

Post  Paradox Sun 14 Aug 2011, 9:27 pm

My DILs sister just had a baby and used the girls name my DIL and son had eventually planned on using ( they are not expecting yet, but had a certain name picked out. No, her sister did not "steal"it, she didn't know what it was).

Anyway, I am allowed to help pick out names for girls. My DILs mother is not because she is so opinionated. Anyway, what are your favorite girls names? My DIL told me today that I tend to lean toward Scandinavian names (Linnea, Annika). If it ends in a "A" I love it. They want something that will sound professional in the business world. They also want it A LITTLE different, but not weird, so no Apples or Alephs.

Just curious about what some of your favorite girls names are (and maybe helping me name my grandchild. I held her sisters 48 hour old baby was enthralled!!! I WANT ONE!) Exclamation

We know a Swedish gal who just had a baby and named her Elin (ee-lin). I like that.

We know another Swedish/Norwegian gal named Bria.

Two girls close to my heart--Anna Linnea and Maria Kristina. Another is Lynnea Faith.

I could tell you some unusual Scandinavian names--Bodil, Dagmar, Hilda, Pia, Ragnhild.

They are not necessarily as fond of the Scandinavian names as I am, though they haven't ruled the last syllable "A" out.

Other ideas that end in A

Mica, Trista, Cara, Alaina, Jordana, Ariana

And others

Janelle, Taylor

A lot depends on the last name it needs to go with.
If it's a long last name, shorter first names sound better.
If it a short or simple last name you can get much more creative
And multiple syllabled with the first name.

Good luck, and congrats on the new grandchild.

Migainegirl....the babe is two years down the line, it's just that they're playing around with names and I'm more than willing to play.

We did come up with our " we have to be weird and different" celebrity name.....Zenith.

Zenith -- I like it!
Unusual but not weird. And very positive.

Sorry about the wait. No grandchildren in sight here either.
But no rush, they're only young and carefree once.

Why, thank you! Very Happy I know you weren't thinking of me, but I had a smile when I saw your suggestion, and that you spell it 'correctly' (no true thing, but in my head, no 'h' is always correct.)

I tend to like names that are a bit more 'old fashioned' Hannah, Anna, Rebecca. But names and naming babies can be so emotionally hard that unless it's my baby, I always tell the parent they've picked a perfect name, and if it's my baby, I hope they'll do the same for me.

A bit late on this topic, but I wanted to add a few. I am half Italian,so I like Sophia and Bella. The funny thing is all my cousins have American names, even in the family where both parents are full Italian!
Hugs,
Cindy

I really really like very American sounding names like Dakota or Mackenzie, maybe because I am Polish, lol
or the flower names like Violette, Viola or Lillian.
I love Lillian! or Lilliana.

my G-F just become grandma the second time around and now has two grand-girls named Aila and Layla.
