Surgery tomorrow!
Please send me some thoughts or prayers tomorrow (Tuesday). I will be undergoing my breast reduction to hopefully help my neck and head pain. I am a little nervous since I have never had general anesthesia. I had 2 C-sections, so not so worried about the recovery. What can be worse than migraine at its worst? So, I might not be online for a few days after today.
Hugs,
Cindy

Re: Surgery tomorrow!
Thanks, Marc! I have lots of friends and family members lined up to help. I figure I can get at least 5 days before they get sick of me:)

Re: Surgery tomorrow!
Hey friends, I am still alive. All you good wishes worked. The first and second day I had a pump of anesthetic the went right into both sites. It was really good. The worst was I woke up the morning of the surgery with an "8" migraine. I almost threw up in the surgical waiting area.
They were very nice once I got in there and gave me anti nausea meds and then some pain meds in my IV. I was asleep before they wheeled me into the operating room. Then I woke up with the headache and they gave more meds until it was gone by the end of the day.
I am more sore in the surgical area today, but I expected that. It is painful to breathe and feels very tight. Also having some digestive issues from taking pain meds around the clock. Any suggestions for that are welcome. I really never have constipation, I lean towards going too often, not too little.
Sorry hope thats not TMI. I have lots of helpers coming over, so I am at least not overdoing it. Will have lots of time for posting now
Hugs,
Cindy

Re: Surgery tomorrow!
I would love to hear all about this as I have a consult later this month for the same. Do you feel less weight on your shoulders and neck already or is the swelling still too much for that?

Re: Surgery tomorrow!
Milo, I can tell that it is going to help. I still have a lot of swelling, but feel less "pulling down" in my neck and upper back. I lost 1 1/2lbs on each side. I told him to err on the side of smaller B instead of closer to C. The best part (besides the weight) is that they are so high now.
I keep glancing down and thinking "Whats that?" since I am used to them being so droopy. I would do it over again despite the overall yuckiness of anesthesia and discomfort. Because we migrainers are tough. People keep saying they cant believe how good I look so soon! I guess they are used to seeing me in the middle of bad migraines.
Nowhere near the pain of my worst migraines. If you have the chance to do it, I would go ahead. I figure if it only help 25%, that is OK. I will try more things later if this isnt it. I am very confident it will improve my head. Most of my migraines are starting there now. Please feel free to ask any questions.I am not easily embarassed.
Hugs,
Cindy

Re: Surgery tomorrow!
Still having good days and not so good days. But, any day day I am able to answer questions. So, ask away. I did get to a store with a little help from my friend. Tried on M shirts and they fit! Yeah! Was wearing L before, but they didnt fit well because the rest of me is kind of small. I also lost 5lbs so far. Intend to lose 5 more as soon as I can exercise again.

Cindy

I am not so techno-savvy. I will see if I can get someone to help me! Have to wait a while until swelling is gone, though. Dont worry, pictures will be PG rated only.....

Re: Surgery tomorrow!
Thanks MGB, but mine werent too pleasing to the eye anymore! That was all you noticed in pics of me and not in a good way... Well, I guess I overdid it the last few days. The doc told me to slow down a little, so I am trying. The incisions are a little infected and I have to put thick antibiotic cream on twice a day.
Yuck! Did I say I am not very patient with myself(great with others, though)? Yesterday we interviewed a new real estate agent. She was a little kooky, but had some good ideas. My hubbie wants to put in on the market in early Feb., but I dont feel like I can be ready by then Life just keeps moving with or without you!
Hugs,
Cindy

Re: Surgery tomorrow!
How are things now? Is it realistic for me to expect to return to work in two weeks post surgery? (if I planned it so I didn't have to lift my arms above my chest?)
I have my consult tomorrow.

Re: Surgery tomorrow!
Milo, I am not sure if I am a good representative of what it feels like after 2 weeks. I got an infection in the incisions, so I am taking longer for the bruising and irritation to subside. I personally would not be able to work a full day. Moving my arms in any fashion is irritating.. sitting completely still not as much.
It is not really that painful, except as the nerves are healing(shooting pains, not constant). I still need pain meds twice a day. But, I cant take any anti-inflammatories at all. I think if I could, that would be enough. I hope I am not discouraging you. I would do it again, for sure.My neck already feels better. Good luck with your appt.
Hugs,
Cindy

Re: Surgery tomorrow!
It is very common to get infection in the stitches area. if you ask me.
Of all the people who I know who had any kind of surgery, after dog bite and dental included, almost every single one of them
ended up having to take some kind of oral antibiotic therapy soon after.
Even one of my dogs (Bella) ended up having to take a course of an antibiotic after her sterilization surgery.
Most doctors will give you an Rx for antibiotic "just in case" and some advise to start taking one right after without even waiting
for an infection to appear, which imo is the best course of action. from what I see.
So you are pretty classic, Cindy

I've been thinking of you, Cindy, knowing you were going to be having this surgery. I'm glad it went pretty well and that you are happy with the results

Re: Surgery tomorrow!
Well, the appointment was uncomfortable but went really well. I'm set for surgery in a few months. I'm not too keen on taking the time off of work, but I need to do what I need to do.
I'm sorry you are still feeling the pain. I think the area does lend itself to a few extra issues that can add to the chance of infection. I hope you heal up quickly

Re: Surgery tomorrow!
Risa, I know you are right. But sometimes it would be nice if my body took the highway to healing instead of the meandering, unpaved country road. They gave me 2 doses of IV antibiotics after the surgery. I have an ointment to put on, but I'm not sure its doing the trick. I am also still on oral antibiotics for Lyme. I should be sterile inside by now! Dont worry, I take very potent probiotics daily. I do like being called "classic" though.
