Bursitis?!?!

Post  Paradox on Mon 23 Jan 2012, 6:28 pm

I'm only 52!

I just lost a long tirade so this will be short and sweet.

Saw my neuro/pain specialist today and asked why my hip was hurting and waking me up at night. He said it was bursitis and it sometimes go hand in hand with chronic sciatica because of the change in gait.

With us, all of us, it seems we just can't catch a break. The medicines we take lead to other problems (I know have to use a $20 prescription toothpaste because my pain meds give me dry mouth and I had my front tooth chip from decay! I take immaculate care of my teeth so that was another shocker...), the medical problem itself leads to other medical problems.

No wonder I'm having a hard time dealing with my annual depression this year.

I did start crying when the first article I pulled up on hip bursitis mentioned "exercises for seniors" with a pic of a 70 year old. You know, I feel older than that many days....

How does that feel exactly, Char? do you have shooting pains up and down your leg and butt
particularly upon standing up and while walking, and while you lay down on your side does it hurt your hip area?
I have this sometimes, the first time it happened it was almost unbearable.

My dr said I could have some shots in the hip to stop feeling the pain if I wanted to, but I am scared of shots to death
so I said not yet. Then after a while, it got better and better and it went away.
Occasionally it flares up, but if I am careful how I walk and do not exert myself (lol, probably meaning I do not exert myself sitting too hard down on sofa
as I hardly do anything else these days!) - things are pretty much OK.

The shooting pains I get are from sciatica. The bursitis is a deep painful ache right at the hip joint. Can't lie on that side and it was waking me out of a deep sleep.

Perhaps you have both my problems, DearHeart?

I'll let you know if the shot helped. For the first couple days it is just pissed off for irritating it, then relief. Or at least that was my experience when they did the shot in the sciatic joint.
