Off Xanax!!
Hey everyone:
Has anyone who has been taking Xanax for years ever got off it? Last Saturday I decided to d/c the Xanax...what a roller coaster ride that was!
I stopped taking it Saturday and by Sunday night I was in something I guess like "withdrawals". I had an anxiety and gut pain I could not believe. My heart was racing. It took 3 days for that to subside. I had no "desire" for the meds, no psychological desire, but evidently my body was "physically" dependent.....wow!
I am feeling really good right now, lighter in a sense. I am feeling more coherent too. I used to take it every night to help me sleep for the last several years, also when I had migraines. I had3 very severe migraines during this time and toughed it out with Relpax and an ice pack for my head and a heating pad for my neck...that Relpax med really tightens my neck and trap muscles terribly.
So Now I am free of that med Anyone else do this before??

Re: Off Xanax!!
wow trinity, that's one hell of a try!
xanax is a tough medicine to come off of. I don't like it--it has the oppositte reaction that it should have one me. It makes me wired, not chilled.
i know klonopin withdrawal is horrible. some of these are really nasty med that do hook you. i take 2-4 mg/klonopin a day to keep my vagus nerve chilled out. just stopping it for a test is hell.
best of luck!

Hey PF
I feel so much better It's been 8 days now and each day I notice something else. Like today, I can actually "smell" the soap I bathe with. I wondered too, if Xanax could cause "rebound" migraines? I will never take Xanax again, if I get anxious a nice cold glass of Zinfendel wine will have to do! I'll enjoy that more anyway!

Re: Off Xanax!!
Well that is probably not the recommended route, but you did it! When I was a teenager I was put on Valium for anxiety. I remember what a relief it was to get off it. I'm glad you are feeling better.

Cindy

Re: Off Xanax!!
Have you ever read Paula Kamen "All In MY Head" ?

She wrote extensively about her experience with coming off Xanax - wow, what a heII to go thru...
I am glad I never took this med, and intend never to.
I wish you best of luck and strong will to continue your resolve to "keep off" Xanax !
