Stomache flu.....
How long can a stomach flu last?
It`s been over a week now, and I am still feeling nauseous and sickly.
can`t eat much, and in a matter of a week I lost about 4 kg - 8.8lbs - which is very good since I was becoming overweight
from HRT.
Still, I wish I could get back to normal since I am like a vegetable - can`t do anything, head`s pounding, stomach revolting,
generally feeling exhausted weak,
thankfully the runs lasted only throughout one night in the beginning -albeit it was a very VERY cramps painful, rocket explosive so afterwards
I had to clean the toilet and take a bath (sorry guys!) at around 4-5 am....

Re: Stomache flu.....
Kitty, you should be feeling better. At longest, stomach bugs last in the range of 24-72 hours. If it's persisting, call the doc. Something's not right.
If I don't have to be anywhere, I tend to let the bug run it's course. I stay away from Immodium....I'd rather things run its course.
If it's really a common GI bug vs. something else it really should be clearing your system by now. If not call doc asap.

Re: Stomache flu.....
Oh, you poor thing. I hate stomach bugs! Sounds like you might have food poisoning, since it is lasting so long. Seems like you would feel better if it was a virus. Losing 8 lbs. sounds a bit drastic. When my daughter had food poisoning many years ago, it triggered her Celiac disease and she had continuing symptoms until she went gluten free!
The best thing for a bug or food poisoning is a bland, lo-fat diet and LOTS of probiotics (not yogurt) until you feel better. I have Celiac disease also, so I have had many bouts of stomach problems. I stick with chicken soup with rice, white rice, bananas, baked potato (plain). Drink only water, tea, or small amounts of ginger ale.
Add other things in very slowly. If you are not feeling better with these, I would see the Dr. Wish I lived nearby, so I could bring soup.
Hugs,
Cindy

Hi Risa,
Sorry to hear you have been doing so poorly, hopefully by now you are feeling better.
Could it be E Coli that's been going around in Canada?

Risa (:
So sorry to hear this, it sounds horrible! I am sure you know all the things to do, try drinking some ginger ale and eat saltine crackers. I agree with everyone else, you might need to go see your GP Doc.
Hoping you feel better soon!

Re: Stomache flu.....
Thanks guys.
E.Coli? hmm unlikely, because we do our steaks well done, want it or not - husband always tend to overdo them, lol
No steaks or burgers before all this happened anyway.
No, all this started after I ate lettuce and two boxes (each day after day) of raspberries - even if I washed everything prior to consuming.
Something's off, though. I still am very weak and unwell.
Tomorrow I'll see my dr, although I am not putting much faith in this, lololol

Risa, Probiotics work for virus or food poisoning. I'm sorry you are still not well. Hope your Dr. can help.

Re: Stomache flu.....
Cindy, thanks, The reason I am not taking anything as of yet is I need to do some tests first, if my dr will see fit to do any.
Until tomorrow!

Re: Stomache flu.....
kitty,
if you're not feeling better, it's time to call the doc.
also, make sure you're getting fluids for your kidneys.

Re: Stomache flu.....
Thank you again so much guys. what would I do without you!
The doc was total letdown. blamed everything on my meds - too much, and possible interaction between Topamax and Biaxin
Yeah right. interesting how the previous two weeks I was taking the very same meds but was feeling the best ever in a last few years!
I did 5-6 laundry, vacuumed and wiped wet the floor in the entire house , emptied and loaded the dishwasher, even did an easy dinner-
all in ONE day!
granted, a long day and hubby helped a little, still it's a huge long way from being barely able to get out of bed to this, dear friends.
Not a SINGLE test to determine if there is anything wrong with my body.
blaming the meds, yet not checking out if my kidney, liver or stomach is ok - just how caring is that?
Such a let down
I do feel a tiny bit better today. Just a tiny bit. Soo tired from this all, though..
