Back on the preventatives again...
OK, so I gave up...May was terrible, and June wasn't starting any better, I'd missed enough time that I have a half time paycheck, thank goodness I had FMLA set up or I'd have gotten fired for the absences. I'd been to the doctor five times for one thing or another this month, and I couldn't take it anymore.
First, we just tried scheduling me regular doses of the neurotin I already take PRN with my migraine meds. After that we added back on the verapamil, at double my old dose. It seems to be helping, I just hate being back on meds I thought I'd gotten off of completely. And I'm sad that my medication list is getting longer again, instead of shorter, like it had been.
And I've got a referral to the Neurologist team at my hospital, but the appointment isn't until October! I've asked to be considered for the first opening if there's a cancellation.
On the humorous side, at one point it was just me and my direct supervisor, and she's had health issues of her own, so was sympathetic, but worried about my health and reliability. She asked me if I'd ever taken Immitrex (pronounced "I'm a trex)"? I told her I've taken it, oral and injected, but it doesn't work for me anymore, and now I use Relpax or Maxalt, plus prescription strength Aleve, Neurotin, Promethazine, a muscle relaxant, and for the really bad days, I've got a narcotic to knock me out and help me sleep through the worst symptoms. She then picked her jaw up off the floor and finished the conversation really quickly. I was kind enough to not laugh out loud at her face.
So thankfully I still see the humor, and it's been an entire week without a major migraine, so I'm hopeful that the preventatives are starting to help, but I hate I'm back on them.
Anyways, I'm so glad you're all here, and thanks for holding my hand through some of the recent bad days. I hope you are all doing well!

Re: Back on the preventatives again...
Sara, I am sorry you are having a tough time right now . I understand how frustrating it is to keep adding on new meds when you have been stable for a while. It makes me feel like my body wants to find a way to have head pain! I have basically decided to stay only on Inderal as a preventative. I have tried so many other things with so many side effects.
Luckily, I dont have to work (but our bank account would be much happier) and I have excellent abortives. I am praying that once I get on the other side of Menopause mine will ease up. I really hope you feel better soon and can get back to working more regularly.
Hugs,
Cindy
