I am sorry but I could not disagree more. Teri Robert is a complete charlatan. She has no professional standing, or any type of medical credentials whatsoever, yet she blogs all over the internet as a self-appointed "expert" on headache and migraine and "patient advocate". A good deal of what she writes is flat out misinformation. I can cite a long list of examples if anyone should feel it necessary.

But what is far more damaging is that she completely fails to acknowledge (and obviously does not understand) the vast territory of medicine in general and headache in particular that is diverse, gray, not completely, well, or at all understood. Where there is disagreement among doctors or a divergence of experience among patients, Robert chooses one point of view -- and presents it as truth. She presents her readers with an ambiguity-free world -- simplified, reductionist, ultimately a lie.

Worst of all, Robert posits this way of presenting headache and migraine to the general public -- HER way, as the ONLY way. She runs the yahoo migraine group which she moderates, as her own personal fiefdom. I assume that the members of this board and others like it, find the advice we offer one another to be at worst, the personal experiences of others suffering from the same or similar medical conditions, which don't apply to our own situation, and at best, useful, possibly life changing recommendations that could alleviate our suffering. As moderator of the yahoo migraine group, Robert enforces a secret regulation (no I'm not making this up), prohibiting "dispensing medical advice." One member of the board however, dispenses medical advice on a regular basis (as in, most of her posts). Guess who. Robert routinely censors posts and bans members from the group. It is abhorrent.

Teri Robert is very, very good at self-promotion. That is exactly what it takes to become an internet celebrity. She's done an excellent job of associating herself with headache and migraine on the internet. Headache and migraine sufferers have been served far better by communities like mdjunction, migrainepage, the google headache group, and this one, than by self-serving grifters like Teri Robert.

The award is for being an advocate -- not for being a medical practioner in the field, so I'm not sure why that would be relevant

I think she is, like many of us, providing a forum for information sharing among suffers, and pushing for more to be done to help the large silent group of he population who suffers from this debilitating disease.

While any one of us may not agree with her on various opinions or experiences, just as we may not agree with each other, I certainly respect that she is working hard to bring some light on this terrible problem. So kudos to her for that. We need more people pushing the medical field, communicating with the public and other suffers, and working to ease suffering.

She never claimed to be a medical expert either. She never claimed the medications she lists in her articles are like, foolproof for migraines.
She strictly follow the guidelines presented by medical establishment,  not invents her own.
As for the yahoo migraine group - well it is HER group, so I guess it is her fiefdom.
This here is Milo's group, whatever she likes to do to this forum she can. Whether you - we- like it or not.

We appreciate and respect and are extremely thankful to Teri for her unrelenting work on us MIGRAINEURS behalf.
It is thanks to Teri that we, us sufferers, as patients, are ever heard. Heard at all!

I may not agree 100% with everything Teri recommends in her book, articles, either, but I don't believe it's enough reason
to discredit her entire impressive, important! body of work and her as a person,
just because I disagree on one or two points.

I suggest you reread the section of my post in which I summarized the merits and benefits of open discussion forums such as this. If Milo or whoever may be moderating this forum chose to close down free expression here as Robert has done on the yahoo migraine group, that would destroy the usefulness of this group, which would be a damn shame. Fortunately, there is always another forum on the internet, and if there isn't, someone will create one, because free expression is a universal value.

You laud Robert for giving migraineurs a voice, but the only voice she allows is her own, and those she explicitly approves. Robert abuses her moderator privilege, banning users left and right. Censorship is not okay. You have made over 1,200 posts to this forum, so it seems to me you value speaking for yourself and would understand that. Or would you personally need to be censored or banned before you got it?

I do, but as you pointed it yourself, we all have freedom to chose as we do
She chooses what she does on her own forum:)

Perhaps some people needs to be more diplomatic or courteous, or both....?
