Crazy bad day Empty Crazy bad day

Sometimes I can coast through a bad migraine, and I don't sweat it too much, but other times, like today, every single minute is torture and the day goes on forever. Last night I woke from ice pick head pain at two AM, took meds, back to bed for an hour, stabbing pain again at three am. so I got up, had coffee (which helped for a minute). But then the monster came roaring back, impervious to Imitrex. I napped fitfully and had fevers all day. Pounding head, swollen sinuses. Light is like a dagger in my eye. The worst part is the nausea. My gut feels like hell.

Days like today make me question everything. What could possibly be the point of this much suffering? More than 20 days a month, lately.

Hazel
I am so sorry you are going through this. I wonder if its seasonal. I just went through a very long run of migraines without a break, woke up this morning at 5am with one, downed a Relpax and coffee and went back to bed.

I am changing out the air filters on our a/c heating unit today and making sure there is nothing around the air handler. Allergies are a big trigger for me and I haven't done anything like that all summer since June anyway. I also noticed a boat load of dust on my dressers, so I plan to wipe those down, clean the ceiling fan in there and vacuum today, trying to eliminate that as a source. I get migraines about 12-17 of them each month, I know that we all understand this suffering you are going through.

Try to get some rest and if its cool enough where you live, open the windows and air out the house, nap if you can and drink lots of fluids. Prayers going your way Smile

Trinity--
I do think it's seasonal, but probably not allergies for me. I get lots of weather migraines, and the low gray weather that comes in off the ocean this time of year kills me.

I managed to to outside yesterday evening, and it was great to get air in my head and feel like a human being for a little while. Now the migraine's back, but not as bad as yesterday. Also I haven't finished my coffee yet. Maybe I'll be okay today.

Thanks for your comments, Trinity. It helps to feel heard. Good luck with clearing your space of allergens. If it prevents even one migraine, then it's well worth the work.

Be well.

Hazel, so sorry you are having a hard time. It is devastating to spend so much time in pain.  My migraines do seem worse in the Fall and Spring. I have some allergies, but just get stuffy and headachy, no sneezing or watery eyes like the rest of my family.

Right now I have a mild cold also. I am going through way too many meds. I cant take any decongestant or antihistamines as they cause a horrible ice-pick type head pain. It is a beautiful day outside, but I wont be enjoying it:x  I hope you get some days painfree soon.
Hugs,
Cindy

UGH. Sorry Hazel. Maybe there is a seasonal thing going on, I've been having migraines daily, I think this is day 7 or 8, lost track.

I had been having a LOT of trouble this summer too.  I will admit that I've been happy dancing (sorry, I hate you're all still having trouble), it's been 8 days now without a migraine.

I've got a bit of a headache, but I can tell it's a bit of caffeine withdrawal combined with a bit of weird sleep.  It feels like I can catch it with aleve, neurotin, and soma (sleeping weirdly always leaves me with muscle tension, and my neuro always has me take aleve and neurotin together since they're synergistic).

I'm not sure exactly why things are going better, by all rights I should be nearly incapacitated.  In the last month:

I've missed enough work that I'm worried about how it looks at work (technically it's discriminatory if they do, but it doesn't stop anybody from thinking/feeling whatever they feel)

I've had the stomach flu, and gave it to DH-thought it was food poisoning, and prepped food for him

Learned that my MIL has been under-reporting her symptoms (end stage metastatic breast cancer) and she needed 1.5L of fluid drained from her lungs

Had a major house renovation/remodel- new carpets and hardwood floor refinishing.  I threw out the furnace filter today, after the carpet was complete

Plus helping BIL/SIL and nephew with plane tickets to see MIL has our budget screaming, aggravating the work concerns when a 75% paycheck came in (FMLA allows me the leave, but unpaid after I use up my PTO).

I am trying something completely different.

When I was getting the injections for my last major migraine, my PCP mentioned that he's referred a few pts to a chiropractor who's been specializing in helping with migraines.  I looked into the doc, and he invested over an hour and a half going through what I've tried, what helped, what didn't, and took a couple of head and shoulder x-rays at no cost to me or my insurance.

Apparently he's seen a number of pts with tendon and musculature malformations that cause the neck to curve the wrong direction.  I do have some incorrect curvature, and I started therapy to retrain the muscles and stretch the tendons so that my neck will curve correctly.  I've got muscle soreness from the stretching, but my head's been acting better than it has since this May when things flared up again.

I'm blessed that my insurance covers this at little out of pocket to me.  I'm willing to give it a try, at least as long as I see it helping and insurance is helping cover the cost.  DH is skeptical, but is willing to go along until one of my limitations come into play.

I hope things improve for everyone here, I know we're all still going to have bad days, but so many of us had been managing better until recently that I feel bad complaining in general or being hopeful for this new possibility.

Everybody take care, and if anybody here is in the Kansas City metro and wants this chiropractor's info, I'm willing to share it, but please realize it's very early treatment days. I'm trying to be positive, but I know many people have tried and failed with chiropractic care, so I'm trying to remain a realist at the exact same time.
