I had a blessed and I mean blessed visit with the surgeon in Boston regarding Migraine Nerve Decompression surgery. First, I was accepted for surgery Smile That was great!

He plans to do what's called a "Full Release", he will sever or decompress selected nerves around my eyes, brows and release muscle there. He will sever or release nerves near my ears and several areas around the top and back of my head will be severed. Then he will go for the occipital branch nerves at the base of my skull and neck and release those.

I have an 80% chance of complete ablation of migraine. The surgery is brutal and recovery about 3 weeks with pain. He will put a drain in the back of my head for a few days.

I know this is silly, but the worst part I am thinking about is having my eyes swollen shut for 2-3 days and not being able to see. Smile I should be back in Boston in 2-3 weeks for the surgery. I told my surgeon about this forum and have invited him to come in, he is Jay Austen, JR MD.

Hi Trinity.

I'm still waiting on the insurance to make up their minds. I'm just ready to get this done and get on with my life. I think you will probably have yours done before I even have an answer. So I can't wait to hear how well it worked before I go under the night.

I don't think the procedure I'm looking at will be as intense as yours. I don't think my surgeon will do anything with my eye or ear area. But I'll find out one of these days.

I'm sending all my best wishes and prayers!!

Kim

Hey Kim:
I am waiting for insurance approval now as well. The doctor said he has had patients with BC/BS PPO before and it was approved. I am having "Full Release Nerve Decompression, and I can't wait either. A chance that 80% of the migraines will be gone and worst case 50% will be gone.

I will pray for your insurance to approve your surgery for you ASAP Smile

Blessings, Trinity
