10 days Post-op Update :)

Post  7777Trinity on Fri 27 Jun 2014, 5:06 pm

Hi Everyone:
I wish you could see me, I can't wipe this stupid smile off my face Smile Very Happy

Thursday morning June 26th was my post op appointment with the surgeon, he said I am in the higher success group of the study already Smile for Migraine Nerve Decompression and Excision.

Everyday I feel stronger and happier than I have in decades. The "migraine monster" has a new address and it's not here at mine Smile

I was off all narcotics within 5 days after surgery, the monster is gone. The only way I can explain it is that where he used to "hunt" in areas of my head and eyes, those places feel vacant or empty.

Right now the only pain I feel is when my forehead has muscle spasm because the surgeon cut those muscles and they are still trying to figure out what happened Smile My eyes ached but now that has gone away, where he went in decompressed the nerves that caused eye migraine.

Current meds are: Motrin 4 of them twice a day, Muscle relaxer 1 twice a day, Xanax 1mg, 1 at bedtime to help me rest. My head feels like concrete but that will get better, my neck and head incisions do not hurt anymore.

Neck fatigue right now is big and general fatigue, but that's to be expected. 90 surgical recovery period, then 6 months out is where the surgery results are. I am so entirely blessed by God to have been able to have this surgery. SmileSmile

Sounds like you're relatively comfortable? Wish you continued healing and long term success w/ the procedure. So glad you were able to get it after all you went through.

Hey Platy and MG:
I am doing really well! The only pain I have at present is when the right side of my fore head goes into a muscle spasm, that really hurts. Surgeon says that should subside within 3 months post op. I take a muscle relaxer for that and Motrin.

Otherwise, like I said just overall fatigue and neck fatigue, both of which will improve as well. The monster is gone and I am free Smile

I believe the key is in identifying all the trigger sites and decompressing or excising them all at the same surgery. Platy, that nerve board you sent me to, everyone who is still having migraines did not have all their trigger sites addressed, so the other sites keep firing.

I am now working with a Research fellow from Harvard regarding this surgery etc., looking to find all trigger sites, putting forth a protocol for surgery, getting insurance companies to cover and researching less invasive ways to address the LON's, the GON will probably always be a surgical event.

I am still praying that this can be an option for some of you, if you go to a Peripheral Nerve Surgeon and he uses the diagnosis "Neuralgia"; insurance will normally cover it. It was too late for me, but at least my surgery diagnosed for migraine is in the study that will change how insurance companies deny or approve this hopefully within the next year or so.

Very Happy
I'm so glad to read about your success. I'm still doing pretty well. Some migraines, but mostly well controlled. My recent episodes happened during stormy weather so I know to be careful during storms. I have consistently developed severe pain when barometric pressure is 30.03 and above. Thank God for relpax.

I spent a great weekend at the beach with my daughter. No headache and no meds  Very Happy  Got one when I came home, but nothing unbearable. I see the neuro on Tuesday. I plan to ask about Botox, faet injections, etc. as well as further surgery if necessary.

I'm so truly glad to hear how well your are doing. I prayed for both of us and am glad that the Lord answered us with a yes. I will continue to pray for the others.

Kim
