Thyroid removal Empty Thyroid removal

Post  kimsmom Fri 08 Aug 2014, 6:29 am

I just had my thyroid out on August 6th. I am still recovering and just got home from the hospital yesterday. Lots of swelling right now.

I had the worst headache after surgery. They said it is because of the position of my head while the surgeon worked many times causes this. Well with my migraine history I was in lots of pain.

I was wondering if anyone knows if this could effect my chronic daily headaches and possibly I may have less headaches? One could hope and with it controlling hormones, maybe?

I am also hoping for weight loss. That would be nice so lose some weight.

I had nine nodules in my thyroid and one was going behind my breastbone. The surgeon was able to get it out thankfully with no problem.

thank you for any help on this matter

If the were nodules that could have been effecting you. Will you get sinthetic thyroid now?
I take supplements for mine. Not sure if it helps that much. But a shortage could.

Thank you both for your replies. Yes, I got it out just in time because the nodules were just multiplying. Since one went behind the breastbone others were soon to follow.

Yes I am now on the synthetic drug to mimic my thyroid gland.

So glad this is behind me now. I am getting a bit better with more energy each day. Nighttime is the worst because of the swelling.

Praying for weight loss. lol I have gained 50 pounds in four years and at my age it is very hard to get rid of the weight.

Thank you Milo. I have had horrible headaches. I do not know why. I am hoping it is just the full moon. They need to get under control cause I start back to work tomorrow. These headaches are dizzy nauseous ones. My recovery would be fine without the headaches. Wish they would just find a cure and be done with it. So frustrating. Sorry guys, I am fed up with these headaches. I know we all are. It was the first thing I felt when I woke up from the surgery.

I will get a grip and keep going. Sometimes while at work I can get my mind off of it so maybe tomorrow will not be so bad. It will be a full day so I should be very tired.

Thank you all for your thoughts. Praying and thinking of all of you too.
