Today is my new birthday! It is exactly 12 weeks/ 3 months since the Full Migraine Nerve Decompression surgery was done and I have never had another migraine. Smile

It seems surreal....but it's so real! I am free of the monster!!! I am free of all the medications, the dark cold rooms.

So I am going to put all my surgeons information here in the event anyone here wants it.

W.G. Jay Austen, Jr. MD
15 Parkman Street - Suite 435
Boston, MA 02114
Phone: 617-724-9922 - ask for Sonja - tell her "Kasey Burt" sent you, that's me.

He does surgery at Mass General Hospital and his offices are in the hospital facility.

Also, Mass General Hospital has studio apartments for patients who have to hang around a few days.

MGH-Beacon House
19 Myrtle Street
Boston, MA 02114
617-726-7679
My apt had a full kitchen and bath, 2 twin beds & TV for $69.00 a night. It's a very nice place too and is about 4 blocks from the hospital. I walked everywhere, I even walked to the hospital at 5am for my surgery the day I had it Smile and did not even rent a car the 2 1/2 weeks I was there. Whole Foods is about 3 blocks, Duncan Donuts and a gazillion places to eat within 3-4 blocks. Right next door is a Cleaners that does wash/dry/fold laundry pretty inexpensive, it was a blessing.

I really hope some of you can get to him. I got my life back and I appreciate more than I can ever express.

3 months post op - no migraines Empty Thanks Risa!

Thanks Risa!!
Tuesday will be 14 weeks since surgery and never another visit from the "migraine monster". It's just amazing, it worked!! After trying so many different treatments and medications, this surgeon turned my sick world into a healthy world Smile

There are only two surgeon's I would trust at the moment doing this surgery, my surgeon W.G. Jay Austen Jr, MD and Dr. Branch. Both have impressive success rates. other surgeon's won't do all trigger sites at one time and people have to have multiple surgeries over a 2 year period to get them all and remain in migraine.

I will change my profile picture to one taken this week Smile

Trinity,

How did they diagnose that you would be a good candidate for this surgery? Did they do scans of some type to be able to tell that there was the binding around the nerves? Or do they just go do the surgery straight off?

It's so great that it has helped you so much.

3 months post op - no migraines Empty Migraine Girl

MG:

I made an appointment to see the surgeon, we identified my trigger sites which were aching neck that would wrap around a side of my head and take an eye into migraine. This would happen both sides. That identified the Greater Occipital Nerves in my neck were a trigger for Migraine. Then the eye ripping pain identified another trigger site. The head cracking pain originated from my right Lessor Occipital Nerve.

I also had some "ear ache" type pain and stabbing pains in different places on my head, all migraine trigger sites. Since I was paying out of pocket, I asked my surgeon to address every trigger site I mentioned and everything he had ever learned to be a trigger site. I had him surgically address each site and had a "Full Migraine Nerve Decompression and Excision" surgery.

I personally feel Dr. W.G. Jay Austen, Jr. is the best in the country right now with the most impressive stats. It breaks my heart to hear from other people with different MND surgeons who have less skill and these people still have migraines. Dr. Austen's 2013 stats put him at an average of 90% reduction in migraine for his patients. I am in the 2014 Research Study with 100% reduction in migraines - as in Never had another migraine since the day before surgery. It's been almost 14 weeks solid and no "migraine monster". Feeling really blessed Smile
