The Banana Peel remedy...

Post  Cluelesskitty on Sat 14 May 2011, 5:05 pm

I was recently given an advice for my migraines - and of course it was a sure-fire, "never ever failed before"
remedy, lol
I was very curious what it can be, and holding my breath awaited for response.
drum roll
I was supposed to have a cup of strong coffee with 1000mg of Vit C and and an aspirin dissolved in it!
God Bless that soul, so helpful she wanted to be :]

That made me recall how over the years I was give so many various tips for M, staring with immortal:

~ banana peels
~ running around the block
~ vinegar compresses
~ have straight vodka
~ have straight whiskey
~ have rye on ice
~ have warm cognac
~ have sex
~ try mary jay (this actually I wouldn't mind to try if I wasn't such a chicken)
~ wear a warm hat

A couple of weird ones I've heard is: Stare at the flame on a lit candle (can you imagine? that would be torture!), and the other one is to rub your big toes together!!! Don't know where they get these weird ideas from. Whoever suggested them has never had a true migraine.

lolol too funny, Ruth

perhaps we are supposed to look at the candle flame while rubbing our big toes together Smile

looking at the candle also reminds me of that staring at the TV snow cure, lol

One that actually does give temporary relief for neck pain.

Stick your tongue out as far as you can with your chin down.

Trouble is your tongue gets sore and it's probably not socially acceptable to walk around all day with your tongue poked out.

I was told to stick my feet in a bath of warm water. It is supposed to draw the headache out. If only it were that simple

Risa-
the option you were too chicken to try...it did nothing for the M pain for me. I had it in an edible form, which means it activates slower, but the nausea was awful and I never felt the M go away, it just kinda made me forget about it. All in all, the cafergot works better for me. HTH

Sara, I suspected it might be just too weak for me.

It may have worked in my early youth when OTC meds still worked (barely, but they did)
but not anymore.

some of the best texts sent by Polish posters known to me:

- there is no such disorder/disease as migraine. what makes it interesting it was said by a neurologist.
- you read too much about migraine, that's why you have a headache later
- migraine in children? be serious.
- maybe you should eat something...
- you need a good poop
- do you need to look so depressed?
- you have a headache AGAIN??

You know what is really sad? I have tried almost all of the ones that seem non-harmful. I always think that if it worked for one person, why not me! Oh how much time and money I have wasted...

Just last year I was told by someone who has migraines to take excedrin with 7-up = speeds up the process. I tried it. I was still in pain.

Last weekend I was at a party and this woman found out that I didn't drink because I had migraines so she proceeded to tell me all about her one migraine. .... her story had many holes in it but I figured maybe it was so long ago, she forgot what it was really like. When she started to give me advise to take 2 tylenol, I walked away and went to see if anyone had a joint outside.

Risa - Marijuana doesn't make it go away; it just numbs you stupid as a distraction for an hour or so, but the migraine and pain is still there. Atleast that is what it does for me.

Risa, those are very popular with some people with Lyme disease who use alternative medicine (not me).
