Just found out my best friend has a return of breast cancer on the same side. Since she already had radiation, she has to have a mastectomy. She wants to have both sides done for prevention, since her Mom died of the same awful disease. I am trying to be strong for her, but not a good migraine time for me. Plus, our house is back on the market. Had 70 people thru in a week and a half, but no offers. WAHHHHHHH. Sorry, rant is over.....

Oh Cindy I am so sorry to hear all this!
I am sure as a friend you must be agonizing right there with her!
but being in the throes of migraine AND having a house for sale is not making being supportive easy for you!
I am sure you are one big bristly ball of stress right now, I am so sorry Cindy I wish i could be there with you helping at least with the house sale.

I hope hope HOPE the mastectomy will be spot on and the only treatment that your friend needs and all will end well, and soon.
Lots of gentle hugs for you and your friend Cindy.

hugs hugs hugs

Thanks, Milo and Risa. Yes, a big bristly ball of stress I am. My friend called last night to tell me she had hung up on her husband when he called. She was trying to tell him she wasnt up to doing something, and he was encouraging her to go ahead and do it to distract herself.

Does that sound familiar? People used to say that to me all the time. I told my friend that they should take it easy with each other. Its so hard to know whats right to say in these situations. My husband told me we are having our third open house in a row on Sunday. Oh my, and Zoe arrives home for Spring break on Saturday...

You all mean so much to me here. What a wonderful group of people we have.

Hugs,
Cindy

Me too, Cindy, I can't imagine NOT having you guys ever!
I would be so lost without your steady, empathic support and friendship. Thank you for being there!

Cindy, people can be so clueless, I understand they mean well but gosh, really, does it take so much to think a little?!
"go out to take your mind off things" - really, now!? why your friend didn't think of that in the first place, hmmm.

But you are right, right now it's a very stressful time- for both. Poor husband only wanted to help,
not irritate his wife. They both sort of move blind about right now, I suppose.
Your advice to take it easy was excellent and sufficient.
They do need to take it easy with each other, and with everything, probably.
That's all that can be done for the first numbing shock of the news, and all that comes with it, I feel.

Good luck with the open house Cindy, I am wheeling my virtual voodoo chicken so you both will have a house sale
and NO MIGRAINE this weekend! :]

You guys, have a great joyous family time with Zoe, too!

me doing the chicken dance for good luck

Hi Cindy

A friend of mine has just done the double masectomy. Same deal. Cancer returned to site of previous surgery. She elected both as she didn't want to go through it all again. There are four of us who have remained friends since highschool. I think the three of us not have surgery cried more than she did.

She was back part time to work at three weeks (she is my Hero) even after infection of incisions.

I look at her and think what a woss I am.

Thumbs down also to husbands who think "getting out will do you the world of good." I want my bed!

Family of a very close friend just went through a double and she definately had a fight but she is now back at work. She had spacers put in which caused considerable pain but she felt the pain was worth it. It's hard to watch someone close suffer, but all you can do is do the things she needs help with and try to stay strong and positive.

I wish you and your friend well. <3
