Oh, my tummy.

Post  LynelleH on Mon 15 Nov 2010, 8:10 pm

I am having an Upper GI test on Wednesday to rule out or confirm stomach problems caused by taking too much Aleve, Excedrin, and Indocin, but mostly the Aleve. My tummy is tender and in constant dull pain. Wednesday cannot get here soon enough. I feel bloated.

I'm taking Tums left and right, and my primary doc has me on once-daily prilosec, all of which helps, but today it seems to be breaking through all those remedies. I want to know what's wrong and I want to get on a treatment plan to fix it.

In the meantime, all I'm taking for head pain is tylenol, and luckily it has been helping. I don't see my neuro until early December. Depending on what the upper GI shows, I may move my neuro appt earlier and ask for narcotics if the tylenol stops working (I'm also on twice daily oxycontin).

I have such mixed feelings about what I want the test to show. Obviously I don't want anything to be seriously wrong, and if there is something bad, I want it to be easily fixed with medication and not surgery. I don't want anything that limits my future use of Indocin (an anti inflamitory), because it helps and it doesn't sedate me, and I don't want to be left with just hydrocodone as my option.

Has anyone had an Upper GI? What is it like? They told me to not eat or drink 12 hours before hand, not even my morning medicines.

Never had an upper GI. I understand your feeling though, do we want answers or do we want everything to be fine ( and go on not knowing what is causing our pain)?

I hope it's something benign so that you can continue to take meds that work.
