Septoplasty and Turbinate Reduction Surgery

I saw the ENT surgeon on Tuesday, we reviewed my CT Scan. The Turbinates were grossly enlarged, my deviated septum is sitting on a "contact nerve". The surgeon said the Turbinates had to be reduced about 50% in size and repositioned so they will not touch nerves. The Septum being moved off the nerve is the other help.

Surgery is scheduled for May 4th, 2016. Would do it sooner, but have already paid for flights and car rental to Florida for next month and want to enjoy the beach if I can.

So, the surgeon says it takes 4-6 weeks for recovery, really a nasty surgery. He will put stents and plugs in my nose, the gel plugs come out the day after but the stents stay in for a week and get really gross....ugh!

However, he said must people get about a 50% reduction in weather migraines, so I will take whatever I can get.

Wow! That sounds like a significant surgery, but I am sure it will be worth it if it helps reduce your migraines. You have already made such great improvements. We are all rooting for you!

I've read redrawing this surgery. Unless there is a significantly deviated septum or other sino-nasial blockage the risk may not be worth the reward. I wish great luck for those that undergo the surgery....for at one aspect the possibility of being able to breath through both nostrils.

I have a 90% blocked right septum. Three physicians have advised me including both ENT and a Plastic Surgeon that the risk (FOR ME, as I'm different than the rest of the world) is high risk, and outweighs the benefit. Again, my case differs than most. If those that benefit, and you and your physician agree go for it.

Personally I'd like to open the septum, but given the risks it is not worth it.
