Re: Deadly migraine today
sorry milo,
those are very tough. i have a nickname for those. i call them Colt .45 migraines. it seems like that's the only thing that will relieve it.
i have some nuke meds in my arsenal that usually will do the trick, but i don't like the side effects.
do what you gotta do...ER if you have to.
good luck!

Re: Deadly migraine today
Thanks guys! I used my "break glass" meds last night. They didn't take it away but did get it under control.
I like the "colt .45" name!
Today is a new day and I managed to enjoy about half of it before my head kicked up again.

Re: Deadly migraine today
Oh so sorry you had to suffer that, Milo!
Hope you are better today.
I had Ms like that, these are very scary.
I appreciate Colt.45 name, too!
It reminds me of the 2 very VERY rare instances of truly horrifying Ms when I took triptans and it was like.... taking
a glass of water alone.
It had zero effect, ZERO. The first time it happened to me, I was dumbfounded, then moments later- petrified.
I was at loss as what to do.
Because triptans was the only thing that worked, if that failed, nothing would save me.
That was the most scary, helpless feeling.
The pain was... you guys know what the Colt. 45 pain can be. I was in migraine hell.
I have no recollection how it ended,
I suppose this could have been the moment I discovered the combo of triptan+painkiller together.
Scary $hit, this Colt.45.
btw before learning of PF's apt name, I also had visions of getting an electric screwdriver and putting it
to my temple - very The Pi movie like. also works

Re: Deadly migraine today
JUST SHOOT ME NOW!!!!!!
I'm so frustrated. I called my pain docs office to see if he could see me early. The only appointment is tomorrow morning....of course I have yet another very important meeting, so I said no. Then I talked to my wife and she said that it's better to miss a meeting tomorrow then to be so bad for the next two weeks and not be able to work at all.
So I called back and booked the appointment with the agreement that I could cancel it if my boss said no.
So I'm showing up with my botox 20 days early and hoping he can break this series and do my shots at the same time.
Please think of me....I need the positive energy so badly right now. Thanks all!!!!

Re: Deadly migraine today
OH my goodness!!!!! He did something brand new today and it seems to have nit the spot!!!!
First he gave me crap for not calling earlier, saying he will see me any time I need to see him....such a nice man.
He did my botox, and about six nerve blocks including new ones in my face. He injected on the upper middle of my eye socket and in another spot just under my eye. It ended up freezing my nose and mouth on that half of my face. I was freaked out but it was a bit less painful then usual.
He has been taking a bunch of extra education and is now teaching other specialists some of the newer techniques. He asked if his group of doctors could call me tonight on speakerphone to talk about the new injection sites and their effectiveness.
They seem to have worked so far! I'm quite excited, as this may be a great new emergency trick for when I can't seem to break the cycle.
I'll look up the proper nerves and locations when I'm off meds and feeling a bit more like thinking.

Re: Deadly migraine today
thanks! He blocked a bunch of the usual ones in the back of my head and the new ones were supraorbital, supratrochlear and infraorbital. Some do the last block through the mouth but he went in under my eye. (I'd prefer this as I hate getting anything done in my mounth). Freaky but effective. I hope it gives me a few days at least of freedom while the botox kicks in.

Re: Deadly migraine today
UGH....I'm pretty close to useless still. The injections broke the cycle, but I still have all the other symptoms. I'm still in consderable pain...but it"s no longer a "colt .45"
Thanks for all the support. I think I'll be ok in a few more days.

Re: Deadly migraine today
Oh, Milo, I can just feel your pain. I hope they can find something to help you soon. I know it's so miserable to be in a holding pattern of such horrible pain.
Have you tried DHE 45?
My thoughts are with you. Hope you're given some relief pronto. Take care.

Re: Deadly migraine today
I am so sorry for you Milo
What can I do except say I hope this will end fast!
I wonder what is causing this, though - it is not quite like you to be in such a long painful spell, is it?

Re: Deadly migraine today
Yes, I get long cycles some times. It's usually not quite so bad though.
Good news though, today saw some improvement! Probably at a 5/10 at it's worst today...so that's better then the last week for sure!
Let's hope tomorrow is even better.
