Migraine and anxiety question
Hi All,
Lately, I've noticed that I've been having more anxiety attacks with the migraine. I am not sure why- I just think it might be part of the migraine, but it is frustrating.
I've been on Klonopin for several years now. It does help the headache and also helps the anxiety- to a degree. Unfortunately, I think that it might be time to switch meds. Maybe something in the same class of medication? I have taken Ativan before- worked for about seven years. Diazepam worked, but could make loopy. Xanax helped some- I've only had it a few times when I was in the hospital.
I will see my psychiatrist in the next week or two. I may asking him about changing the dose or switching meds. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Pain free days,

Re: Migraine and anxiety question
Migraines mess with your seratonin, hence the anxiety and bad moods. SSRI uptake inhibitors sometimes help, but I got side effects to all those I tried.

I totally know where you are coming from. My anxiety levels and anxiety attacks had increased with the frequency of the migraines and the much deeper pain of them. My PCP put me on Elavil 10mgs and that helped some, but wasn't enough.
I spoke to my Endocrinologist and he switched me to Celexa 20mgs. Even though I have had the MND surgery, I was still experiencing anxiety attacks. his feeling was that when I was still in "migraine hell" my anxieties were over worrying when the next one would come. Made sense to me.
After the surgery, he said that after decades doing that a "habit" developed, a habit of anxiety. The Celexa is helping me break that psychological habit. It is my hope as I continue to live 99.9% free of the "monster" I will be able to start weaning myself off the Celexa. However, that said I have to have some firm stress intervention strategies in place first. In the spring I plan to join the YMCA again, because now I can actually go
Talk to your doctor about trying one of these meds. The Celexa takes about 3 weeks to get used to, initially interrupted my sleep. I took 1 mg of Xanax to help me sleep for the first few days, then a half of one and now mostly none at all. Trinity
