Medications that work
What has worked for you?
What has been a not-so-good experiance with medications for you?

Re: Medications that work
My daily headache medication is emtec's which are tylenol #3's without caffeine.
My heavy hitter is a compound of cafergot and gravol. I'm limited on the number of these I can take in a week so when things get really bad I don't have an option available.
I take butterbur, magnesium, vitamin B2, Vitamin D3 (8000 iu) , Omega 3, coenzyme Q10 and B12 injections.
I've been on these supplements for almost a year now excluding the B12.
The hardest part about the T3's is that most doctors do not believe they work for migraines, but they have always been my go-to med. Luckily my pain specialist does not believe in letting people stay in pain, so he orders them to me, as many as I need.
The other crappy part is that you can't just skip taking them one day when your headache goes as you need to taper off of them after using them for a while.
I've tried a whole bunch of preventatives without luck. I really wanted topamax to work but I got really, really stupid on it. There is a reason why doctors refer to it as "stupimax".

Re: Medications that work
I also have BAD experiences with preventatives. Topamax was a nightmare for me. Complete psychotic break down. No luck with triptans.
On top of the CDM I have chronic lower back pain. Between the two, I'm in constant pain. I take vicoprofen and oxycontin daily to keep the pain at a 2/3. With that I'm able to work full time.
Not a route I wanted to take, but one that keeps me moving. When the M gets real bad I have zofran and toradol injections.

Re: Medications that work
Same boat here...
I've been prescribed all types of anti-depressants as preventatives. They all failed and worsened migraine.
I'm not considered serious enough to try Topomax and - from what other sufferers have reported - I'm not at all willing to try
Beta blockers are off limits for my low BP.
Like Milo, I use Cafergot.
In some cases, I've tried to use paracetemol (European equivalent of Tylenol) at the very very onset of an attack. Along with a good espresso coffee it can do the trick and stop the attack for some hours.
Triptans are just fresh water for me

Re: Medications that work
I can't take triptans for heart-related concerns.
I take indocin/indomethacin capsules and suppositories, as well as I recently discovered 2 Aleve or 2 Excedrin work, but then I am also on twice-a-day oxycontin.
I have been through the range of meds, and this is what I currently use. And I am on 300mg topamax and 50mg nortriptyline daily.

Re: Medications that work
Currently
Daily I take 150mg Topamax, 4 big pills of magnesium (not sure dosage), Yasmin Birth Cont to regulate. Esocitropham (for anxiety and depression)
Abortive I take Imitrex (nasal or pill) 2 Tylenol with Codine and 3 Ibuprphen for migraine. It will usually get rapidly worse before it gets much better and if after 3-4 hours, if it doesn't stop, I do it again. If I'm at home, I will take a smoke of pot and at night if I'm clenching in pain, a muscle relaxant or Ativan.
I found that suffering and drawing out a migraine for days was so much more detremental to my health than blasting that sucker with all I can at once. As the years go on the pain is more unpredictable, frequent and harsher. It could be that I'm going through menopause (weird stuff happening) I hope this is like childbirth. Once the change happens, then it is over.
Topamax has been my lifesaver. After 2 1/2 months of stupid and tingling, it went away and I was normal again. It cut down my pain and frequency by 1/3. I'm thinking of upping the dosage soon
